It is hard to believe the school year is moving as fast as it has been. Just recently our elementary students celebrated the 100th day of school! Some will say we are in the homestretch. However, we still have a lot of work to do in our classrooms, on stage, on the athletic fields and in the Board Room.
The past few months have highlighted for me, the school spirit, the talents and abilities of our students, staff and our alumni. I hope you’ve been able to either partake in some of the events district-wide, follow the school websites or on social media! Thank you for your continued support of our schools and for the outstanding ways in which you partner with the District and our schools to ensure our ongoing success.
As we move into the next few months, there are a few notable things happening district-wide. First, the district is in the midst of a Superintendent search. A big THANK YOU to everyone who has participated in the process by either attending the candidate presentations or supplying input to the Board of Education. We are still on track in naming the successful candidate at the March 17th Board Meeting.
We are also involved in some facility upgrades in the district. Plans are moving forward for the S.S. Palmer building renovation that will include a new office area with a more secure entrance. There will also be renovations made to the existing office area and eventually the library. Plans are also moving forward to replace the old windows at the high school with newer more energy efficient glass while putting us on a guaranteed energy savings program.
The District enthusiastically welcomed three new members to our School Board in early December. On behalf of our community, I extend my thanks and appreciation to those School Board members who departed the Board this year. The commitment of our community members who assume the role of board member is a testament to the value we place on education in our public schools. I look forward to the work we have ahead of us.
On a personal note, I wish to thank everyone who has made my transition into your Palmerton family a truly enjoyable experience and I can honestly say it will be difficult to leave in July.
I look forward to your continued involvement in our schools in the new year.
