As you are aware, the new school immunization regulations, which were approved in May 2010, became effective August 2011, in time for the 2011-12 academic year. The regulation states that the immunization requirements shall be completed within eight months of the date of provisional admission to school. If the requirements are not met, the school administrator may not admit the child to school or permit continued attendance after that eight month provisional period. The eight month provisional period will expire eight months after the first day of school, which is mid-April 2012.
To assist with getting students immunized, the Department of Health will be providing immunization clinics during the week of April 9, 2012. To register for an appointment, families can do one of the following:
* Visit www.padohclinicappt.com (to be live 3/26 – 3/30); or
* Call 877-PA HEALTH (877-724-3258) for additional information.
Students will need to be registered by the end of the first week in April. The most recent copy of the student’s vaccination history will need to be provided at the time of the appointment. Students may also have their family doctor complete the immunizations.
Please communicate this information to your school nurses and families who are still in need of their immunizations.
