PALMERTON AREA SCHOOL DISTRICT PROPOSED BUDGET
At the regularly scheduled meeting of the Board of School Directors of the Palmerton Area School District held on Tuesday, May 16, 2017, the proposed budget for the 2017-18 Fiscal Year was tentatively adopted. The proposed budget for the fiscal year beginning July 1, 2017, is projected as $32,379,011. A copy of the budget is on file at the Business Office, located at the Parkside Education Center, 680 Fourth Street, 3rd Floor, Palmerton, PA and is available for public inspection from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Monday through Friday and may also be found on the District’s website: www.palmerton.org.
The budget will be presented for final adoption at the regular meeting of the Board on Tuesday, June 20, 2017, at 6:30 p.m. in the Hazard Conference Room located on the 3rd Floor of the Parkside Education Center, 680 Fourth St, Palmerton, PA. This announcement is made in accordance with Section 687, School Code of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, and Act 1 of 2006.

Proposed Final 2015-2016 Budget Notice and Per Capita Tax Notice
NOTICE is given that the Proposed Final Budget for the General Fund of Palmerton Area School District for 2015-2016 fiscal year in its most recent form is available for public inspection in the Business Office, 680 Fourth Street, Palmerton, PA 18071, and will be presented for adoption as a Final Budget at a school board meeting to be held in the Hazard Board Room of the Parkside Education Center, 680 Fourth Street, Palmerton, PA 18071 at 6:30 pm on Tuesday, June 16, 2015. The budget may be amended before final adoption.
NOTICE is also hereby given that persons eighteen (18) years of age or over who become residents or inhabitants of this school district and persons attaining the age of eighteen (18) years while a resident or inhabitant of this school district are required by law within twelve (12) months thereafter to notify Palmerton Area School District Business Manager, 680 Fourth Street, Palmerton, PA 18071 610-826-7101, of their having become residents or inhabitants or their attainment of age. This notice is given in connection with the per capita tax levied by Palmerton Area School District, and any person failing to comply with the requirements of this notice will be liable, in addition to the tax, for a penalty, plus collection fees.
Adopted Final 2015-2016 Operating Budget
The Board of Directors approved the Palmerton Area School District General Operating Budget for the 2015-2016 fiscal year with a real estate tax levy of 53.80750 mills (a 1.36 mill increase over 2014-2015) with budgetary expenditures of $30,387,081. The board also authorizes, as a part of the General Operating Budget adoption, the Section 679 Per Capita Tax of $5.00: Act 511 Earned Income Tax of 1.00%; Act 511 Per Capita Tax of $10.00: Act 511 Realty Transfer Tax of 1.00%; Local Services Tax of $5.00. The Board reaffirms and reenacts all collection procedures that are applicable to the local service tax, Section 679 and 511 Per Capita tax and Act 511 Earned Income Tax, and Act 511 Realty transfer tax. For informational purposes: Sharing of certain taxes occurs as permitted by law: Per Capita –$10.00 school district, $5.00 municipality; Earned Income Tax –.5% school district, .5% municipality; Realty Transfer Tax — .5% school district, .5% municipality; Local Services Tax –$5.00 school district, $47.00 municipality.
|The School Board is made up of nine members who serve for a four year term. Elections are held every two years, but only five members are chosen during one election. The other four members are chosen during the following election. The Board of Education meets on the third Tuesday of each month at 6:30 p.m. All meetings are held at the new central administration office 680 Fourth Street.
