Student
Art Exhibits
Each
year our students participate in a variety of art contests,
poster contests and exhibits. One student is selected each year
to receive the "Superintendent's Award" for outstanding achievement
in this area.
Band/Chorus
Concert
The
elementary band and chorus students present two concerts a year.
One concert is held in the Winter with the second concert held
in Spring. The concerts are held at Towamensing.
Sixth
Sense Competition
A
team of youngsters from the Towamensing and the S.S. Palmer
Elementary School compete with local students in the sixth sense
academic competition. The competition is held in the Spring.
Students meet regularly, under the direction of their advisor,
Mrs. Arnold, to prepare.
Safety
Programs
Whenever
possible, we invite speakers into our school to stress the importance
of good safety habits. Assemblies relating to school bus and
bike safety, stranger awareness, environmental issues, and nutrition
are a regular part of our program
Peer
Tutors
Mrs. Broderidge, our librarian, works with fifth and
sixth grade students who would like to help younger children
experiencing difficulty with their school work. These children
volunteer their time in an effort to provide help with schoolwork
and much needed encouragement for these youngsters during the
year.
Peer
Mediation
A
team of teachers and students have received training in Peer
Mediation, which is a program to help students resolve conflicts
which may occur on the playground, bus, or in the classroom.
It is not designed to resolve severe behavioral or disciplinary
problems. These types of situations are referred to the principal
or guidance counselor.
Student
Council
Student representatives from grades 3 thru 6 are selected
to sit on our Student Council. These students take an active
role in our school's everyday activities and promote positive
programs throughout the school year. Our Student Council is
under the direction of Mrs. Kocher & Mrs. Heydt.
Yearbook
Under
the guidance of Mrs. Paulinho, the Towamensing Elementary School
publishes an annual yearbook. This yearbook encompasses the
many exciting activities and events which take place throughout
the school year. Everyone will be represented in our yearbook
through class and individual photos.
Computer
Club
Our
Computer Club offers many exciting opportunities for our students.
Students are given the chance to visit the Computer Room during
selected times to learn more about technology and experience
the many opportunities of the world of computers.
Fine
Arts Night
On this night, held in the Spring, students in grades
K-3 perform class level and grade level songs. Along with this,
the hallways are adorned with artwork from all students in grades
K-6.
